Technical Author/Technical Writer required by my amazing product engineering client in North Hampshire.

You’ll be a fundamental part of the team that helps shape my client’s product experience, and will work closely with Engineering, R&D and internal teams to create technical content and documentation including, however not limited to, user guides, maintenance manuals and help files.

Furthermore, you will part of the marketing team and will assist in the redesigning of the UI/customer experience, bringing a fluidity and added value to the clients.

Scope of Activities

* Developing technical content and documentation, including operating instructions, manuals, labels, conformance certificates, explanations, media, CAD animations, graphical assets, guides, illustrations and all associated content.
* Maintaining a library of all corporate documentation to support our products and services, including all user guides/manuals, help files, drawings/schematics, design guides, detection performance charts, FAQ’s, application notes, white papers and other types of support information from an agreed work schedule.
* Identifying new and innovative ways to compile, present and distribute the client’s technical documentation and implementing them.
* Assist in the development of product information to feed the R&D development process. This includes being involved in shaping the user interface to support customer requirements (i.e. development of user cases and associated test plans, documentation, communications).
* Liaise directly with our R&D team and other departments to create technical content.
* Hands-on with equipment and user interfaces to understand their operation for both communication and improvement.
* Responsible for management of the translation process, vendors and all external parties.
* Keeping all product information up to date with the latest technical data, legislation and regulations, and working with your marketing colleagues to make these are customer focused.
* Understanding the technology and applications for which illustrative technical documentation is to be prepared to a consistent look and feel.
* Working with third parties as required (i.e. translators, printers and service providers).
* In addition to the duties listed above, the position holder must carry out tasks assigned by their supervisor that are essentially related to their duties.

Essential Requirements:

* Hands-On Approach to understanding, and using, technical products and creating content to clearly explain complex information using a variety of media (online, print, video, multimedia, illustration).
* Technical Background: degree in a technical discipline (i.e. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) preferred.
* Good and concise writing and communication style that can suit both technical documentation and online content (including blog content).
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to get stakeholders on-board to provide required information.
* Team worker - capable of working within the marketing team and liaising with our Development, Engineering and Quality departments to clarify technical issues and illustrate them in a simple manner.
* Good time management, organisational and presentation skills. Demonstrable ability to complete multiple projects to demanding deadlines.
* A good attention for detail and a proactive approach to work.
* A solid understanding of manufacturing and design principles.
* Competent IT skills, experience of working with Madcap Flare, Lingo and Contributor or similar packages (i.e. FrameMaker, RoboHelp) and proficiency with Microsoft Office & SharePoint.

Desirable Requirements:

* Experience in developing the user interface of equipment (i.e. user experience).
* Experience of working with a CAD system (i.e. Solidworks) would be a distinct advantage.
* Experience in a similar role within a manufacturing or industrial B2B company.
